Kjeragfossen: Norway's Majestic Waterfall

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Stavanger, take the E39 highway towards Kristiansand. After approximately 40 kilometers, take the exit toward Lysebotn on the RV500. Follow this road, which offers scenic views, for about 30 kilometers until you reach the Kjerag parking area. The final stretch is a winding road with several turns. The parking area is well-marked and is the starting point for the hiking trail to Kjeragfossen waterfall. Note that parking may incur a fee, typically around NOK 100-200 per day.

• Public Transportation

  From Stavanger, take the bus to Lysebotn. The bus departs from the Stavanger bus station and the journey takes approximately 2 hours. Make sure to check the schedule in advance, as there may be limited services. Once you arrive in Lysebotn, you will need to either hike or arrange for a taxi to the Kjerag parking area, which is about 10 kilometers away. Hiking this stretch will take around 2-3 hours, as it involves navigating through mountainous terrain.

  From the Kjerag parking area, the hike to Kjeragfossen waterfall begins. The trail is well-marked and typically takes about 2-3 hours one way. The hike is moderately challenging, so ensure you have proper hiking gear and sufficient water. As you ascend, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding fjord and mountains.
