Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start on the Historic Columbia River Highway (US-30) heading east from Portland. Follow the signs for the Columbia River Gorge. Continue on US-30 for about 30 miles until you reach the entrance to the John B. Yeon State Scenic Corridor. Turn left into the corridor, and follow the road to the Elowah Falls Trailhead. There is a small parking area available, but note that it can fill up quickly on weekends and holidays. Parking is free.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take the MAX Light Rail from Portland to the Gateway Transit Center. From there, catch the Columbia Gorge Express bus, which operates daily and will take you along the Columbia River Gorge. Disembark at the Elowah Falls stop. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as it may vary seasonally. The bus fare is approximately $5 each way. From the bus stop, it's a short hike to the waterfall via the Elowah Falls Trail.

• Hiking

  Once you arrive at the Elowah Falls Trailhead, follow the well-marked trail that leads to the waterfall. The hike is about 1.2 miles round trip and is considered moderate in difficulty. The path is generally well-maintained but can be steep in places. Wear appropriate footwear and bring water, especially during warmer months. The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding forest and the waterfall itself.
