Car
If you're traveling by car, start on I-84 E from the Cascade Mountains. Take exit 51 for Cascade Locks, and follow signs for WA-14 W. Continue on WA-14 W for approximately 10 miles until you reach the intersection with the Bridge of the Gods. Cross the bridge into Oregon, where it becomes OR-30 E. Follow OR-30 E for about 5 miles, then take the exit for OR-35 S. Continue on OR-35 S for approximately 15 miles until you reach the junction with Forest Road 44. Turn left onto Forest Road 44, and follow it for about 5 miles to reach the Mt. Defiance trailhead parking area. Note: A Northwest Forest Pass may be required for parking, which costs around $5 for a day pass.

Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, you will first need to get to Hood River, Oregon. You can take the Columbia Gorge Express bus service from Portland to Hood River. From Hood River, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to the Mt. Defiance trailhead, as public transportation does not reach the mountain directly. It is approximately a 20-minute drive from Hood River to the trailhead. Be sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time and consider the costs of the taxi or rideshare service, which may vary.

Hiking
Once you arrive at the Mt. Defiance trailhead, prepare for a moderately challenging hike. The trail is approximately 7 miles one way, with an elevation gain of over 3,000 feet. Make sure to bring adequate water, snacks, and a map, as the trail can be steep and strenuous. The trail is well-marked, and you will be rewarded with stunning views of the Columbia River Gorge at the summit.
