Chickahominy Reservoir: A Serene Escape in Oregon

Getting There

• Car

  From Bend, Oregon, take US-97 South for approximately 45 miles. Exit onto OR-31 South towards Paisley. Continue on OR-31 for about 35 miles until you reach the junction with OR-20. Turn left onto OR-20 East and drive for about 15 miles. Look for signs to Chickahominy Reservoir. You will turn left onto a gravel road, which leads directly to the reservoir. The entire trip should take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

• Car from Redmond

  From Redmond, head south on US-97 for about 25 miles. Take the exit for OR-126 East towards Prineville. After about 15 miles, turn left onto OR-380 East. Continue on OR-380 for about 25 miles until you reach the intersection with OR-20. Turn right onto OR-20 East, and follow it for approximately 20 miles to the turnoff for Chickahominy Reservoir. Follow the gravel road to the reservoir. The drive should take around 1.5 hours.

• Public Transportation

  Currently, there is limited public transportation directly to Chickahominy Reservoir. You can take a bus from Bend to La Pine using Cascades East Transit, which operates a route to La Pine. Once in La Pine, you may need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to cover the final 20 miles to the reservoir, as public transit options are sparse in that area. Make sure to check the schedule in advance, as bus services may be infrequent.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, cycling is an option. From Bend, follow the same route as for cars (US-97 South) until you reach OR-31 South. The roads can be rural and quiet, but be aware of traffic, especially on US-97. Bring plenty of water and snacks, as services are limited along this route. The distance from Bend to Chickahominy Reservoir is about 70 miles and will take several hours depending on your cycling speed.
