Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Prineville, the largest city in Crook County. Head northwest on NE 3rd St toward NE Court St. Continue onto OR-126 W for about 20 miles until you reach the junction with US-97 N. Take the ramp to The Dalles/Bend. Merge onto US-97 N and continue for about 25 miles. Take exit 153 for Cottonwood Rd towards Bend. Turn right onto Cottonwood Rd, and follow it for about 5 miles. The Lava River Cave will be on your left. There is a small parking lot available at the site. Be sure to check if you need a parking pass, which can be obtained at the visitor center or online.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Prineville to Bend via the Crook County Transit. The bus will drop you off at the Bend Transit Center. From there, you will need to catch the Cascade East Transit bus (Route 3) towards Sunriver. Get off at the stop closest to Cottonwood Rd. From this point, it is advisable to either walk (about 1.5 miles) or arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to get to Lava River Cave. Ensure to check the bus schedules in advance to plan your trip accordingly, as services may vary.
Rental Equipment
