If you are traveling by car from Prineville, head northwest on NW 1st St toward NW Oak St. Continue on OR-26 W for about 25 miles. Turn left onto Painted Hills Rd and follow the signs for Painted Hills. The drive takes approximately 45 minutes. Be aware that there may be some unpaved sections, so drive carefully.

From Redmond, take US-97 S to OR-126 E. Follow OR-126 E for about 20 miles, then take the exit for OR-27 S toward Prineville. After about 10 miles, turn right onto OR-26 W and follow the directions to Painted Hills Rd. This route takes about 1 hour.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take the Central Oregon Breeze bus service from Bend to Prineville. From the Prineville Transit Center, you may need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach the Painted Hills, as direct public transport to the site is limited. The bus fare is typically around $5 one way.
Car
For those coming from the east side of the county, take OR-26 W from Mitchell. The drive is scenic and takes about 30 minutes. Make sure to refuel before you head into the more remote areas, as services are limited.
