Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start by heading towards Crater Lake National Park. From anywhere in Douglas County, find your way to Highway 138, which is the main route into the park. Follow Highway 138 East until you reach the intersection with OR-62 South. Turn right onto OR-62 South and continue for about 15 miles until you reach the entrance to Crater Lake National Park. There is an entrance fee of $30 per vehicle, valid for 7 days. Once inside the park, follow the signs directing you to Munson Valley Road. Take Munson Valley Road to the Steel Visitor Center, which is approximately a 10-minute drive from the park entrance.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options are limited in this area. However, you can take a Greyhound bus or a local shuttle service to Medford, Oregon. From Medford, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a rideshare service to get to the Crater Lake National Park entrance. Once at the entrance, you will need to follow the same directions as driving by car. Keep in mind that the public transportation options may not align well with park hours, so plan your trip accordingly.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, biking to the Steel Visitor Center is an option. You can start in Roseburg, head east on Highway 138, and follow the same route to Crater Lake National Park. Be prepared for varying terrain and ensure that you have proper gear and supplies. Keep in mind that it may take several hours to reach the park, and be cautious of traffic on the highway. Once you arrive at the park, follow the signs to Munson Valley Road for access to the visitor center.

• Walking

  Walking to the Steel Visitor Center is not practical due to the distance and lack of pedestrian paths. It is recommended to use a car, bicycle, or public transportation to reach the visitor center safely.
