Car
From Hood River, take Interstate 84 East towards The Dalles. Continue for approximately 14 miles. Take exit 44 for Cascade Locks. Turn left onto Historic Columbia River Hwy and follow the signs for Ponytail Falls. The parking area is located at the trailhead approximately 1 mile down the road, on the right side. Note: There may be a parking fee of $5 for day use.
Public Transportation
Catch the Columbia Gorge Express from Hood River to Cascade Locks. The bus departs from the Hood River Waterfront Park. The fare is approximately $5 one way. Once you arrive at the Cascade Locks stop, walk towards Historic Columbia River Hwy. It is about a 20-minute walk to the Ponytail Falls trailhead. Be sure to check the bus schedule for return trips.
Bicycle
For a more adventurous route, you can bike from Hood River to Ponytail Falls. Follow the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. This scenic route is approximately 15 miles and offers beautiful views of the Columbia River Gorge. Once you arrive at the Ponytail Falls parking area, secure your bike in the designated bike rack and enjoy the hike to the falls.
