Walking
From downtown Hood River, head east on Oak Street towards 1st Street. Turn left onto 1st Street and continue until you reach the intersection with Cascade Avenue. Turn right onto Cascade Avenue. Follow Cascade Avenue as it turns into Highway 35. Continue walking along the highway; you will see signs for Government Camp. It is approximately a 30-mile walk and may take several hours, so be prepared with water and snacks.
Biking
Start at the Hood River Waterfront Park. From the park, head north on the bike path along the Columbia River. Follow the path until you reach the intersection with Cascade Avenue. Turn left onto Cascade Avenue and continue until it merges into Highway 35. Follow Highway 35 north towards Government Camp. This route is approximately 30 miles and should take around 2-3 hours, depending on your biking speed.
Public Transit
From Hood River, walk to the nearest bus stop located at 1st Street and Cascade Avenue. Take the Columbia Area Transit (CAT) bus Line 2 towards Mt. Hood. Inform the driver that you wish to get off at Government Camp. The bus ride will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Be sure to check the current bus schedule for exact times and routes.
