Walking
From downtown Hood River, start at the corner of Oak Street and 1st Street. Head north on 1st Street until you reach State Route 35. Cross the highway and continue north along the sidewalk. Follow the signs for the Historic Columbia River Highway Trail, which will guide you east. After approximately 3 miles, you will reach the entrance to the Pool of the Winds area, located near the Columbia River Gorge. The scenic viewpoint is a short walk from the entrance.
Biking
Begin at the Hood River Waterfront Park. Take the bike path heading east along the Columbia River. Continue on the path, which will eventually lead you to the Historic Columbia River Highway Trail. Follow this trail for about 3 miles until you see the signs for the Pool of the Winds. The route is mostly flat and offers beautiful views of the Gorge along the way.
Public Transport
Take the Columbia Area Transit bus from the Hood River Transit Center. Board the bus heading towards Stevenson, WA. Inform the driver you want to get off at the closest stop to the Pool of the Winds. From your stop, walk east along the street until you reach the entrance to the scenic area, which is about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop.
