Car
Start your journey from the town of Madras, located in Jefferson County. Head south on US-97 S for about 14 miles. After approximately 14 miles, take the exit towards Oregon 26 E toward Prineville. Continue on OR-26 E for about 11 miles, then turn left onto Crooked River Hwy. Follow this road for about 10 miles, keeping an eye out for signs that will lead you to the Crooked River caldera. You may need to park at a designated area and walk a short distance to fully access the caldera.
Public Transportation
Currently, public transportation options are limited in Jefferson County. However, you can take the Cascade East Transit from Madras to Prineville. From Prineville, you would need to hire a taxi or a rideshare service to cover the remaining distance to the Crooked River caldera, which is about 16 miles away. Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can start from Madras and follow the same route as by car. It will be about a 25-mile ride.
