After about 9 miles, turn left onto Overlook Trail. The Painted Hills Overlook will be on your right. Parking is available at the overlook area. There are no fees to access the Painted Hills unit.

    If you are using public transportation, you can take a bus to the nearest major town, which is Prineville, OR. From Prineville, you will need to rent a car to reach Painted Hills Overlook. From Prineville, head north on US-26 for about 23 miles, then follow the directions above from US-26 to Mitchell, OR.
