Car
If you are driving from anywhere in Jefferson County, take US-97 South towards Bend. This is the most straightforward route. As you approach Bend, look for signs directing you to Deschutes National Forest. The forest's main access points are located off of US-20 and other local roads. Be sure to have a map or GPS handy as some roads may not be well marked.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, you can take a bus from Madras or Culver to Bend using the Cascades East Transit service. Once in Bend, you will need to transfer to a local shuttle or taxi service to reach Deschutes National Forest. Currently, there are no direct public transportation routes into the forest itself, so be prepared for some additional travel costs for the shuttle or taxi.
Hiking/Biking
Once you arrive at Deschutes National Forest, consider parking at one of the designated trailheads if you are driving. If you are near Bend, you can bike or hike to the forest from the city. There are several bike paths and walking trails that lead into the forest, providing a scenic and enjoyable way to reach the natural areas.
