If you are driving from Madras, OR, take US-26 E towards Mitchell. After approximately 30 miles, turn left onto Painted Hills Road. Follow Painted Hills Road for about 6 miles until you reach the Painted Hills Overlook parking area. The trailhead starts from the parking lot. Note that the road is unpaved, so be cautious if you're in a standard vehicle.
