Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from the center of Jefferson County, head south on US-97 South for about 24 miles. You will pass through Madras. After approximately 24 miles, take the exit for OR-126 East toward Prineville. Follow OR-126 for about 14 miles until you reach the intersection with US-97. Continue straight onto US-97 South. After about 2 miles, take the exit toward Smith Rock State Park. Turn left onto Smith Rock Way and follow it for about 1 mile. Turn right onto Steelhead Falls Road and continue for about 1 mile until you reach the Steelhead Falls Trailhead parking area.

• Public Transportation

  Currently, there are limited public transportation options directly to Steelhead Falls Trailhead. The closest public transport is the Central Oregon Intercity Transit, which operates routes from Bend and Redmond to nearby towns. You would need to take a bus to Redmond, then arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach the trailhead. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may not run frequently.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous cyclist, you can bike from the nearby town of Terrebonne. Start by heading south on Smith Rock Way, then connect to the paved paths leading towards Steelhead Falls. It’s about a 5-mile ride from Terrebonne to the trailhead, and the roads are generally bike-friendly, but be cautious of traffic on US-97.

  If you're staying near the Steelhead Falls area, you can walk to the trailhead from nearby accommodations. Ensure you have appropriate footwear and are prepared for a short trek, as the trailhead is about 1 mile from local lodging. Follow local paths and ensure to check maps for the best walking routes.
