Car
If you are driving, start from Albany, OR. Take I-5 South to exit 228 for OR-34 E toward Corvallis. Continue on OR-34 E for approximately 25 miles. Turn right onto US-20 E and proceed for about 40 miles until you reach the junction with OR-126 E. Take OR-126 E for about 10 miles until you see signs for Sisters, OR. Continue on to Sisters, then follow signs to the Mount Washington Wilderness area. There are no entry fees for this area, but make sure your vehicle has enough fuel as services can be sparse.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take the Amtrak train to Albany, OR. From Albany, you will need to take a local bus to reach Sisters, OR. Look for the Cascades East Transit service that operates routes to Sisters. Once in Sisters, you will need to either arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to get to the Mount Washington Wilderness area, as public transport does not reach the wilderness directly. Ensure to check the bus schedules in advance as they may vary.
Hiking/Walking
Once you arrive at the Mount Washington Wilderness area, you may need to park at designated parking areas and walk to the trailheads. There are several trails available for exploration. Always carry a map and be prepared for changing weather conditions. Make sure to wear suitable footwear and bring plenty of water and snacks. Hiking is free, but donations are appreciated at local visitor centers.
