Getting There

• Car

  From Silver Falls State Park, exit the park and turn left onto OR-214 N. Continue driving for about 13 miles until you reach the junction with US-26. Merge onto US-26 W toward Portland. After approximately 5 miles, take the exit for OR-173 S toward Welches. Follow OR-173 S for about 4 miles until you reach the town of Welches. Once in Welches, look for signs directing you to the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. The main entrance is located near the Welches area.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options to reach Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness from Silver Falls State Park are limited. However, you can take a bus from Silverton to Salem. From Salem, board a Greyhound or local transport to get to Welches. Once in Welches, you may need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness trailheads, as public transport options are infrequent in this area. Be sure to check the schedule in advance and expect to spend time coordinating connections.

• Biking

  If you're feeling adventurous and enjoy biking, you can cycle from Silver Falls State Park to Welches. Exit the park and follow OR-214 N to US-26. Use the shoulder of the road carefully, as it can be busy. Once on US-26, head west towards Welches. This route is approximately 20 miles and may take about 2-3 hours depending on your biking speed. Ensure you have all necessary biking gear and check the weather conditions before setting out.

• Hiking

  For the most adventurous visitors, you can hike to Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness if you're already in a nearby area. However, this requires careful planning and an understanding of the trail systems. From Silver Falls State Park, you can hike along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) which leads towards the wilderness area. This is a more strenuous option and should only be attempted by experienced hikers. Make sure to carry adequate supplies and a map.
