Getting There

• Car

  To reach Hispar Glacier from Gilgit, you can rent a car or hire a local driver. Start your journey on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) heading north. After approximately 60 kilometers, you'll reach the town of Hunza. Continue driving for another 15 kilometers to reach the village of Passu. Stop here to gather supplies and possibly hire a local guide. From Passu, take the jeep track that leads towards Hispar Valley. The road may be rough, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Drive for about 25 kilometers until you reach Hispar village, which is the last inhabited area before the glacier. Here, you can arrange for porters if you plan to trek to the glacier itself.

• Public Transport

  If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Gilgit to Hunza. Buses leave regularly and the journey takes around 2-3 hours. Upon reaching Hunza, you can take another bus or a shared jeep to Passu. This part of the journey typically takes about 30-45 minutes. Once in Passu, you can hire a local guide and a jeep to take you to Hispar Valley. The jeep ride will take approximately 1-2 hours, depending on road conditions. Costs for bus tickets are around PKR 500 to 1000, and jeep fares from Passu to Hispar Valley can range from PKR 3000 to 6000, depending on the number of passengers.

• Trekking

  If you're feeling adventurous, you can trek to Hispar Glacier from Hispar village. The trek typically takes 2-3 days, depending on your pace and the weather conditions. Start by following the path that leads into the Hispar Valley. This route is challenging and requires good trekking gear, as well as a local guide for navigation. Ensure you have ample supplies, as there are no facilities along the way. It's advisable to camp overnight at designated points. Make sure to inform someone of your trekking plans for safety.
