Start from the main market area in Gilgit. Head southwest towards the Gilgit River along the main road. Continue walking for approximately 5 kilometers until you reach the junction leading to Skardu. Here, you will find local signposts indicating the direction to Skardu. Cross the bridge over the Gilgit River, and continue on the main road. After about 25 kilometers, you will enter the Skardu region. Keep an eye out for signs pointing toward Chumik Farol Desert. The Chumik Bridge is approximately 7 kilometers from the main road, located near the Chumik Farol Desert. Follow the signs and local directions from there to reach the bridge, which is located at the coordinates 35.298217, 75.6572752.
Public Transport (Bus)
From the main bus stand in Gilgit, take a bus heading to Skardu. Buses usually depart every hour, and the journey takes around 2 to 3 hours depending on road conditions. Once you arrive in Skardu, ask the driver to drop you off at the junction for Chumik Farol Desert. From here, you can either walk or hire a local taxi to take you to the Chumik Bridge, which is about 7 kilometers away. Make sure to confirm the exact drop-off point with the driver to ensure you are close to the right junction.
Hiking
For an adventurous route, you can hike from Gilgit to Skardu, which is approximately 100 kilometers. Start from the Gilgit market and follow the Indus River upstream. This trek is challenging and requires good physical fitness and preparation. After reaching Skardu, you can use local guides or signposts to find your way to Chumik Bridge, which is about 7 kilometers from the main road leading to Skardu.
