Getting There
Walking
From Skardu city center, head towards the main road (Kargil Road). Walk along Kargil Road for approximately 2 kilometers until you reach the intersection leading to the K2 Resort. Look for signs indicating Katpana Desert or K2 Resort. Take a left turn at the intersection onto the road that leads towards K2 Resort. Continue walking for about 1 kilometer until you reach the entrance of Katpana Desert, which is near the K2 Resort.
Local Transport (Rickshaw)
In Skardu, you can hire a rickshaw from any main street. Inform the driver that you want to go to Katpana Desert. The fare should be around 200-300 PKR. The driver will take you along Kargil Road. After approximately 15 minutes, you will arrive at the K2 Resort area, which is adjacent to Katpana Desert. Just ask the driver to drop you off at K2 Resort, and you can easily walk to the desert from there.
Bicycle Rental
You can rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Skardu. Once you have your bike, head towards Kargil Road. Cycle for about 2 kilometers until you reach the intersection for K2 Resort. Turn left and cycle for another kilometer. You will see the signs for Katpana Desert as you approach the K2 Resort area.
