If you are driving from Madang Town, head east on the main road (Kavieng Road) towards the airport. After approximately 10 kilometers, turn left onto the Unnamed Road near the junction with a small local market. Continue on this road for about 5 kilometers. Look for a sign indicating Jones Wal; the area is known for its hiking trails, so keep an eye out for hikers' vehicles parked along the road. The final approach involves navigating through some rough terrain, so a 4WD vehicle is recommended.
Public Transport (Bus)
From Madang Town, you can catch a public bus that heads towards the airport. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the junction near the local market. The bus ride will cost around 5 toea. After getting off, walk approximately 5 kilometers on the Unnamed Road towards Jones Wal. Be prepared for a walk on uneven surfaces as the last stretch may not be well-maintained. Make sure to plan your return journey as buses may not run frequently in this area.
Taxi
For a more direct route, hire a taxi from Madang Town to Jones Wal. Ensure that you negotiate the fare before getting in; expect to pay around 50 to 100 PGK for the trip, depending on your negotiation skills and the time of day. The taxi driver will take you directly to the closest point near Jones Wal. Be aware that the last part of the journey may require some walking, as the taxi cannot go all the way into the hiking area.
