You will need to look for the signs to Huanchaco, as Chan Chan is located just a short distance from this beach town. Once you reach Huanchaco, follow the signs to the archaeological site. Parking is available near the entrance, but be prepared for a small parking fee of around S/5 (Peruvian Soles).
Public Transportation
To reach Chan Chan by public transportation, start your journey at the Trujillo bus terminal. Look for buses heading towards Huanchaco, which typically leave every 15-30 minutes. The fare is approximately S/2 to S/3. Once you arrive in Huanchaco, ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to Chan Chan. The site is about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop. Follow the signs or ask locals for directions to the entrance.
Taxi
For a quicker option, you can hire a taxi from Trujillo to Chan Chan. This will cost around S/20 to S/30, depending on your negotiation skills and the time of day. The ride should take approximately 20 minutes. Ensure that the taxi driver knows your destination, or show them the address: VWVG+Q5C, Huanchaco.
Walking
If you find yourself in Huanchaco, walking to Chan Chan is an option. From the main beach area, head towards the main road (Avenida Principal) and follow the signs to Chan Chan. It’s about a 30-minute walk, but it’s a pleasant route that will give you a glimpse of local life. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated!
