Salkantay Premium Trek 5 Days: Glamping Adventure to Machu Picchu

Do the 5 day trek, you won’t regret it. I was really impressed with salkantay trekking company. The attention to detail and the level of care they gave each passenger, was impressive. They ran a really good system, catering towards each person’s hiking capabilities. The food was seriously one of the best parts. Each day included 3 full meals with multiple courses, and 2 tea times, while experiencing authentic Peruvian cuisine. The 5 day trek was the perfect balance. 3 day might be a little too rushed for those not used to the elevation. Luxury option was definitely worth it and it pays for itself if you want to do the extra activities. Our tour guide Porfirio, was 10/10. His passion for nature and history was exceptional. I’ve never met another tour guide that was as caring and knowledgeable as Porifiro. Everything about this trip blew away my expectations. The views, the employees, and the food. After seeing other companies, they weren’t as well ran as Salkantay Trekking. Word of advice though prepare for this trip, because the altitude and distance isn’t easy. There’s horses available for certain parts for cheap, but definitely start preparing.

Once in a lifetime

This tour exceeded our expectations and truly a once in a lifetime experience that was well worth the price of admission. Everything was incredibly well organized; our guide, Nilton, helped guide us through every moment of every day both logistically and with deep knowledge and information about the history of the area. My husband was at first skeptical of taking this tour vs just taking the train straight to Machu Picchu and - while acknowledging the hike was challenging - by the end, he was calling friends of ours that are coming in a few months and suggesting they take this tour. You get to experience the area in a special way and the 2x visit to Machu Picchu is amazing! We were lucky that the weather was beautiful despite predictions of rain. Our guide, Nilton, was incredibly passionate and knowledgable about the Inca history and he is an incredible story teller with a strong command of the English language. One of the highlights was a 7am 40 minute 'lecture' at MP the second day with the MP site in the background - what a classroom! Ingrid, the 2nd guide, had a great spirit and was helpful in encouraging all of us along the way during the hike (but will say her English was less strong but overall the experience was great between the two of them). The hike is no joke but well worth it - the guides did a good job of keeping us moving but also taking breaks. Wear bugspray! We didn't the second day and paid for it! :)
