Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Public Bus
If you're in the central area of Arequipa, head to the main square (Plaza de Armas). Look for the bus stop near the Plaza. Take the bus marked 'Cayma' or 'Yanahuara'. The fare is approximately 1 sol. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Cusco street. After about 15-20 minutes, get off when you reach the intersection of Cusco street and Avenida La Paz. From there, walk 5 minutes down Cusco street, and you will see the Carmen Alto viewpoint on your right.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct option, you can take a taxi. Hail a taxi from any main street in Arequipa, or use a taxi app. Tell the driver 'Carmen Alto viewpoint, Cusco 178, Cayma'. The ride should take around 10-15 minutes from the city center, depending on traffic. It's advisable to agree on a fare before starting your journey or ensure the meter is running.
Walking
For an adventurous route, you can walk from the Plaza de Armas. Start at the Plaza de Armas and head northeast on Avenida La Paz. Continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers, then turn right onto Cusco street. The Carmen Alto viewpoint will be on your left after a short walk. This option is ideal if you want to enjoy the local scenery, but it may take around 30-40 minutes.
