Car
If you are traveling by car, first make your way to Chivay, the main town near Colca Canyon. From Chivay, drive along the road towards Cabanaconde, which is the starting point for many treks into the Colca Canyon. The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive in Cabanaconde, follow the signs to the Sangalle trailhead. Park your car at the designated area. From the trailhead, begin the trek down towards Sangalle, which will take approximately 3-4 hours depending on your pace.
Public Transportation
To reach Sangalle via public transportation, start by taking a bus from Arequipa to Chivay. This journey takes around 4-5 hours. Once in Chivay, look for a local van or bus service heading to Cabanaconde, which will take about 30-45 minutes. After arriving in Cabanaconde, you will need to ask for directions to the Sangalle trailhead. From there, it’s a trek down to Sangalle, which will take around 3-4 hours. Make sure to wear good hiking shoes and carry enough water and snacks.
