Saqsaywaman: The Majestic Incan Fortress of Cusco

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the main square, Plaza de Armas, head northwest on Calle del Medio towards the intersection with Avenida El Sol. Turn left onto Avenida El Sol and continue walking for about 10 minutes until you reach the intersection with Avenida de la Cultura. Turn right and walk straight for approximately 15 minutes. You will see signs directing you to Saqsaywaman as you approach the entrance. The path will incline slightly as you get closer to the archaeological site.

• Public Transport (Bus)

  From Plaza de Armas, walk to the nearby bus stop located on Avenida El Sol. Look for buses marked 'Saqsaywaman' or 'Los Cormoranes'. Board the bus, which will take you uphill toward the archaeological site. The journey will take about 15-20 minutes. Once you get off, follow the signs to the entrance of Saqsaywaman, which is just a short walk from the bus stop.

• Taxi (Collective Taxi)

  To take a collective taxi, head to the main taxi stand near Plaza de Armas. Look for a taxi that is going towards Saqsaywaman and share it with others to reduce costs. The fare is usually around 5-10 soles per person. During the ride, enjoy the scenic views as you ascend to the site. The taxi will drop you off near the entrance, where you can easily walk to the ticket booth.
