Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, head to the town of Copacabana, which is approximately a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from La Paz. Once in Copacabana, drive to the harbor where you can park your car. From the harbor, take a boat to Isla del Sol. The boat ride takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Boats frequently depart, but it’s advisable to check the schedule in advance. Upon arriving at Isla del Sol, you will need to hike about 30 minutes to reach the Chincana Labyrinth. Follow the signs toward the north of the island.

• Public Transportation

  To travel by public transportation, take a bus from La Paz to Copacabana. The bus ride usually takes around 3 to 4 hours. Once in Copacabana, head to the main harbor to purchase your boat ticket to Isla del Sol. The boat ride will take approximately 30 to 45 minutes. After arriving at Isla del Sol, you can walk (approximately 30 minutes) to Chincana Labyrinth. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water for the walk.

• Boat

  From Copacabana, you may need to purchase a boat ticket to Isla del Sol. This ticket typically costs between 20 to 30 Bolivianos (about $3 to $4 USD). Boats to Isla del Sol are available throughout the day, with the trip taking roughly 30 to 45 minutes. Make sure to check the return schedule if you're planning to come back on the same day.

• Hiking

  Once you arrive at Isla del Sol, follow the marked trails toward the Chincana Labyrinth. The hike will take about 30 minutes and involves some elevation changes. It’s advisable to start early in the day to avoid the heat, and don’t forget to bring water and snacks.
