Hiking
From the center of Aguas Calientes, head towards the main entrance of the Machu Picchu site. You can start at the Plaza Manco Cápac, which is the main square. From there, follow Av. Pachacutec heading north. Continue walking until you reach the base of the mountain. The entrance to the trail that leads to Machu Picchu is well-marked and is approximately a 30-minute uphill walk from the town center. Be prepared for a steep ascent, and ensure you have comfortable walking shoes. The trail is usually busy with other tourists, so it’s easy to follow.
Bus
Alternatively, you can take a bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. The bus station is located near the Plaza Manco Cápac. Look for signs that say 'Machu Picchu Bus' or 'Consettur'. Buses run frequently, approximately every 10-15 minutes. The ride takes about 20 minutes and will take you directly to the entrance of Machu Picchu. A one-way ticket costs around 12 USD, and a round trip is approximately 24 USD. Make sure to purchase your bus tickets in advance, especially during peak tourist season.
