Getting There

• Public Transportation

  From your location on the Salkantay Trail, make your way to Aguas Calientes. You can take a bus or hike down to the nearest road that connects to the town. Once in Aguas Calientes, head to the bus station which is located near the main plaza. Purchase a ticket for the bus to Machu Picchu Peak. The bus ride takes approximately 30 minutes and costs around 24 Peruvian soles (about $6.50 USD) one way. The buses operate frequently, generally from 5:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Make sure to keep your entrance ticket handy as you'll need it to access the peak.

• Hiking

  If you're feeling adventurous and are physically prepared, you can hike up to Machu Picchu Peak from Aguas Calientes. The trail is steep and can take around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace. Start from the main entrance of Machu Picchu and follow the signs leading to Machu Picchu Peak. Be sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and carry plenty of water. Entry to the peak requires a separate ticket, which costs an additional 200 Peruvian soles (about $55 USD) on top of your Machu Picchu entrance fee.

• Private Taxi

  If you prefer a more comfortable and direct route, you can hire a private taxi from your location on the Salkantay Trail to Aguas Calientes. This option may be more expensive, typically ranging from 150 to 300 Peruvian soles (around $40 to $80 USD) depending on your negotiation skills and the taxi service. Once in Aguas Calientes, proceed to the bus station to take the bus to Machu Picchu Peak as described earlier.
