Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the town center of Vilcabamba. Head southwest on Avenida Las Flores toward Calle la Paz. Continue onto the road leading to the Cordillera de Vilcabamba. Follow the signs, and expect a drive of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions. Make sure to have a map or GPS for navigation, as some areas can be remote. Keep an eye out for local wildlife and be cautious of sharp bends.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Cordillera de Vilcabamba by public transport, first, you must get to the main bus terminal in Vilcabamba. You can take a local taxi to the terminal if you're starting from a hotel. Look for buses heading towards the town of La Convencion or Santa Teresa, as they will get you closer to the Cordillera. The bus ride typically takes about 2 to 3 hours and costs around 10-15 soles. Once you arrive at your destination, you may need to hire a local taxi or find a shared vehicle for the remaining distance to the Cordillera, which can cost an additional 20-30 soles.

• Hiking

  For the adventurous, consider hiking from Vilcabamba to Cordillera de Vilcabamba. Start your trek early in the morning from the center of Vilcabamba, following marked trails that lead directly to the mountains. This hike can take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours depending on your pace and the trail conditions. Be sure to pack sufficient water, snacks, and a map, as some areas may not have clear signage. The hike is challenging but offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
