Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Butuan City, which is about 30 kilometers away. Head northwest on the Maharlika Highway (AH26) towards Agusan Del Norte. Continue driving for about 25 kilometers until you reach the town of Remedios T. Romualdez. Once in Remedios T. Romualdez, look for signage directing you to Mount Hilong-hilong. The final stretch is a dirt road; ensure your vehicle is suitable for off-road driving. Take note that fuel stations may be limited, so refuel in Butuan if necessary.
Public Transportation (Bus)
For those using public transport, board a bus bound for Remedios T. Romualdez at the Butuan City Bus Terminal. The fare is approximately PHP 50-70, and the journey takes around 1 to 1.5 hours. Once you arrive at the town proper, you can hire a local motorcycle taxi (habal-habal) to take you to the base of Mount Hilong-hilong. Expect to pay around PHP 200-300 for the motorcycle ride, depending on your negotiation skills and the distance to the trailhead.
Hike
After reaching the base of Mount Hilong-hilong, prepare for a hike. The trail is known to be steep and challenging, so bring appropriate hiking gear, plenty of water, and snacks. There are no entrance fees, but it's advisable to hire a local guide for around PHP 500-800, which can enhance your experience and ensure your safety. The hike typically takes 2-4 hours to reach the summit, depending on your fitness level.
