Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are driving, start from Cagayan de Oro City. Take the East Mindanao Road (also known as the Cagayan de Oro - Bukidnon Road) heading towards Bukidnon. Continue for about 60 kilometers until you reach the junction for Baungon. Turn left at the junction and follow the signs to Baungon. After about 10 kilometers, you will arrive in Baungon. From there, you can use a GPS or map application to navigate to the coordinates 8MVJ+8G, which is the location of Balangikog Falls. Be prepared for some rough roads, and consider using a 4x4 vehicle if possible. There might be a minimal parking fee at the base of the falls.
Public Transportation
From Cagayan de Oro City, head to the Agora Bus Terminal and take a bus bound for Baungon. The trip typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Inform the bus driver that you want to get off at the Baungon market area. Once you arrive at Baungon, you can hire a local tricycle or motorcycle taxi to take you to Balangikog Falls. The fare for the tricycle is approximately 100-200 PHP, depending on negotiation. The driver should know the location of the falls, but it's always good to have the coordinates (8MVJ+8G) handy.
Hiking
After arriving at the drop-off point near Balangikog Falls, you will need to hike for about 30 to 45 minutes to reach the falls. The trail can be steep and may require good hiking shoes. Follow the local paths and look for signs or ask locals for directions. It's advisable to go with a local guide if you are unfamiliar with the area. Ensure you have enough water and snacks for the hike.
