From Chaves, head to the main bus station (Terminal Rodoviário de Chaves), located near the city center. Look for buses heading to Montalegre; they typically run several times a day. The journey will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Once you arrive in Montalegre, disembark at the main bus stop. From there, Montalegre Castle is a short 15-minute walk uphill.

After arriving at the Montalegre bus stop, exit and turn left onto Rua da Igreja. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Rua de São Sebastião. Turn right and continue straight until you reach the main square (Praça do Município). From there, follow the signs directing you to Montalegre Castle, which is located at Terreiro Açougue 5. The castle is situated on a hill, so be prepared for a bit of an uphill walk.
