Getting There

  • Walking

    Start from the Coimbra train station. Exit the station and head straight towards Av. de Emídio Navarro. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Rua Pedro Nunes. Take a left onto Rua Pedro Nunes and continue straight. You will pass by several local shops and cafes. After about 15 minutes of walking, you will arrive at Praça da República, a large square. From the square, head towards the University of Coimbra. Walk past the university, keeping the main entrance on your left, until you reach the end of the university grounds. Continue straight on Rua da Sofia until you reach the intersection with Av. da Guarda Inglesa. Turn right onto Av. da Guarda Inglesa, and you will see St Francis Convent (Convento de São Francisco) on your left after a short walk.

    From Coimbra city center, head to the nearest bus stop, ideally located near the Praça da República. Board a bus that heads towards 'Convento de São Francisco' or 'Praça da República'. Once you are across, take a right and follow the riverbank for about 10 minutes. You will reach a large park area. Continue walking straight through the park, and you will eventually arrive at Av. da Guarda Inglesa. Turn left on Av. da Guarda Inglesa, and St Francis Convent will be on your right.
