Getting There

  • Walking

    From the heart of Chiado, head towards the Rua Garrett street. Walk straight until you reach the intersection with Rua do Carmo. Continue straight until you see the iconic Elevador de Santa Justa on your right. This will take you to the higher part of the city. After enjoying the view, descend the elevator. The elevator ride costs €5.30 for a return ticket. Once you exit, turn left and walk towards Rua do Comércio.

  • Walking

    Continue walking down Rua do Comércio until you reach the large square known as Praça do Comércio. This square is also known as Terreiro do Paço and is a significant landmark in Lisbon. The Lisbon History Centre is located at Praça do Comércio 78, which is on your right side as you approach the square.

  • Public Transport

    If you prefer not to walk, you can catch tram 28 from Chiado (stop: Praça Luís de Camões). Ride the tram towards Martim Moniz for about 5 stops. Get off at the stop called Praça do Comércio. The Lisbon History Centre is just a short walk away from the tram stop, located right on the square at Praça do Comércio 78. A single tram fare costs €3.

  • Metro

    Alternatively, you can take the metro from Baixa-Chiado station (which is in Chiado) to Terreiro do Paço station. Take the Blue Line towards Santa Apolónia and get off at Terreiro do Paço. From there, it's a short walk to Praça do Comércio where the Lisbon History Centre is located at number 78. A single metro fare costs €1.50.
