Getting There

• Public Bus

  From Viana do Castelo city center, head to the main bus station (Terminal Rodoviário de Viana do Castelo). Look for the bus company 'Transdev', which operates services to Oia. Purchase a ticket to Oia at the counter or from the driver. The bus ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at Oia, exit the bus and follow the signs towards the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Oia, which is about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop. Head south on Rúa do Párroco Don Claudio Rodal Fandiño until you reach the monastery.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Viana do Castelo. Start from the city center and take the cycle path towards the coast, heading south. Follow the signs for the N-551 road; this scenic route will lead you along the river and eventually connect you to Oia. The ride is approximately 15 kilometers and takes around 1 hour. Upon arriving in Oia, follow the local roads to Rúa do Párroco Don Claudio Rodal Fandiño to reach the monastery.

• Walking

  For the adventurous, walking to the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Oia from Viana do Castelo is a viable option. Start your journey from the city center and head south towards the coast. Follow the coastal path along the riverbank and the N-551 road. The walk is approximately 15 kilometers and will take around 3-4 hours. Once you reach Oia, navigate to Rúa do Párroco Don Claudio Rodal Fandiño where the monastery is located.
