Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from any location in Kent County, head to Route 1 South (also known as the Post Road). Continue on Route 1 South until you reach the exit for Route 138 East towards Newport. Merge onto Route 138 East and continue for about 6 miles. As you approach Newport, follow signs for the Newport Bridge. After crossing the bridge, take the first exit for Newport and keep right at the fork, following signs for Ocean Drive. Continue on Ocean Drive for approximately 3 miles until you reach Castle Hill Lighthouse, located at 800-870 Ocean Ave, Newport, RI 02840. Note that parking may be limited in the area, and look for designated parking spots along Ocean Drive.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, start by taking the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus service. You can catch a bus from various locations in Kent County to the RIPTA Transit Center in Providence. Once there, transfer to Bus 60, which heads towards Newport. After arriving in Newport, disembark at the stop closest to the Newport Gateway Center. From there, you can either walk or take a local taxi or rideshare service to Castle Hill Lighthouse. It is approximately 3 miles from the Newport Gateway Center to the lighthouse, so walking may take about an hour. Taxis and rideshare services will provide a quicker option and typically cost between $10-$15.

• Bicycling

  For the more adventurous travelers, consider biking to Castle Hill Lighthouse. You can rent a bike in Newport. Start from the downtown area and head toward Ocean Drive. The ride along Ocean Drive offers beautiful coastal views. The distance from downtown Newport to Castle Hill Lighthouse is about 3 miles. Be sure to follow bike lanes where available and wear a helmet for safety.
