Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving, start by heading onto Route 138 from Newport. Follow the signs for Jamestown. Continue on Route 138 for approximately 5 miles. When you reach the bridge to Jamestown, cross over and follow the road as it turns into North Road. Continue straight for about 1.5 miles, then take a left onto Fort Wetherill Road. The entrance to Fort Wetherill State Park will be on your left. Look for the park signage.

    To reach Fort Wetherill State Park via public transport, begin by taking the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus route 63 from Newport. The bus will take you across the Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge towards Jamestown. Once you arrive at the Jamestown Village stop, transfer to bus route 14 towards East Ferry. Get off at the stop for Fort Wetherill Road. From there, it is a short walk to the park entrance, which will be about 0.5 miles down the road.
