If you're driving from Newport, RI, start by heading south on US-1 S. Continue on US-1 S for about 12 miles until you reach the junction with RI-1 S. Take exit 3B toward Narragansett. Merge onto RI-1 S and continue for approximately 4 miles. Take exit 6 for South County Trail (RI-2) towards Narragansett. Continue straight on South County Trail for about 1.5 miles, then take a left onto Crest Ave. The John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge will be on your right at 43 Crest Ave, Narragansett, RI 02882.

Public Transportation
To reach the John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge using public transit, start by taking the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus from Newport to South Kingstown. You can board the R-line bus at the Gateway Center in Newport. Ride the bus until you reach the South Kingstown Transit Center. From there, transfer to the 66 bus heading towards Narragansett. Get off at the stop closest to South County Trail and Crest Ave. Walk approximately 15 minutes down Crest Ave to reach the refuge at 43 Crest Ave. Please check the RIPTA website for current schedules and fares.

For an adventurous option, consider biking from Newport. Start by heading south on the scenic Ocean Drive, enjoying the coastal views. Follow Ocean Drive until it merges onto Route 138. Continue onto US-1 S and then take Rhode Island Route 1A, which leads towards Narragansett. The route is approximately 14 miles and will take you through beautiful landscapes. Once you reach the intersection with Crest Ave, turn left, and the John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge will be on your right. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all biking safety rules.
