If you are starting from the downtown area of Providence, head towards Kennedy Plaza. From the center of Kennedy Plaza, walk northwest on Dorrance Street until you reach the intersection with Washington Street. Turn left onto Washington Street and continue for about 0.3 miles until you reach the intersection with the Providence River. At this point, you will see the river on your right side. Continue walking straight until you reach the intersection with James Street. Turn right onto James Street; the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Bridge will be straight ahead at the end of the street.
Public Transport (Bus)
From Kennedy Plaza, take the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus #1 or #3. Both routes will take you towards the waterfront area. Get off at the stop on Washington Street at the Providence River. After getting off, walk towards the river and follow Washington Street until you reach James Street. Turn right onto James Street, and you will find the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Bridge at the end of the street.
Bicycle
If you are renting a bike, start from the downtown area and head towards the Riverwalk. Follow the bike path along the river heading south. As you ride, keep an eye out for signs leading to the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Bridge. You will eventually come to the bridge as you follow the path along the river. The ride is scenic and takes you right up to the bridge, which is located at James and Bridge Street.
