Getting There

  • Car

    From the Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge, head northwest on Route 1. Continue on Route 1 for approximately 3 miles until you see the signs for Charlestown. Merge onto Route 1A toward Charlestown and follow it for about 2 miles. Turn left onto Narragansett Trail. The Francis C Carter Memorial Preserve will be on your right. There is no entry fee for the preserve.

  • Public Transportation

    From Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge, you will need to take the RIPTA bus #14 (South County) towards Wakefield. Get off at the stop near the intersection of Route 1 and Route 1A. From there, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 miles north along Route 1A to reach Narragansett Trail. Turn left onto Narragansett Trail, and the preserve will be on your right. Please check the RIPTA website for current schedules and fares.

  • Bicycle

    If you have a bicycle, you can ride from Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge. Head northwest on Route 1 and then take the bike lane along Route 1A toward Charlestown. Follow Route 1A for about 2 miles, then turn left onto Narragansett Trail. The preserve entrance will be on your right. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all traffic laws.
