Getting There

Walking
From the center of Butare (near the National University of Rwanda), head north on Avenue de l'Indépendance towards Avenue des Réserves. Continue straight until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit to merge onto the Nyanza road (RN1) heading towards Kigali. After about 500 meters, you will reach a bus stop; from here, you can catch a public bus heading to Kigali. The buses are usually marked with 'Kigali' on the front.

Once on the bus heading to Kigali, inform the conductor that you want to get off at the Nyabugogo bus station in Kigali. The journey takes approximately 2 hours. Once you arrive at Nyabugogo, exit the bus and look for signs directing you to the city center or for taxis that can take you to the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

If you choose to walk from Nyabugogo bus station, head north on Avenue de la Révolution. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with KG 14 Ave. Turn left onto KG 14 Ave and walk for about 1 kilometer. The Kigali Genocide Memorial will be on your right.
