Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car within Nyungwe Forest National Park, head towards the main entrance of the park, which is located near the town of Kitabi. Once you enter the park, follow the signs leading to the various trails. For the Sunbird Trail, continue on the main road until you see a sign indicating the turnoff for the trail. It is approximately a 30-minute drive from the park entrance to the Sunbird Trailhead. Ensure you have a map or GPS, as some areas may not have clear signage.

  • Public Transportation

    If you are using public transportation, you can take a bus from Kigali to the town of Cyangugu. From Cyangugu, you will need to hire a motorcycle taxi (known locally as an 'moto') or arrange a private taxi to take you to the Sunbird Trailhead. The motorcycle ride from Cyangugu to the Sunbird Trail will take approximately 30 minutes. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting the ride, which should be around 5,000 RWF.
