Turn left onto Avenue de l'Amitié and continue walking for another 15 minutes until you reach the roundabout at the entrance to the Rubavu District. From the roundabout, take the road leading towards Buyoga, which is a bit more rural and less busy. After about 20 minutes of walking, you will arrive at Buyoga village. Keep an eye out for local signs pointing towards Muyanza Dam. The dam should be visible from a distance as you approach it, located approximately 5 minutes further down the road on your left.
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Rubavu. Start at the main square where the market is located. Cycle south along Avenue du Maréchal J. A. Habyarimana for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Avenue de l'Amitié. Make a left turn onto Avenue de l'Amitié and continue for about 3 kilometers. When you reach the roundabout, take the exit towards Buyoga. After about 4 kilometers, you will see a sign for Muyanza Dam on your right. The dam is about 1 kilometer from the main road, so you may need to do a bit of off-road cycling along the path leading to the dam.
Public Transport
From Rubavu town, head to the local bus station near the main market. Look for buses heading towards Buyoga. Once you board, inform the driver that you are going to Muyanza Dam.
