Walking
Start from the center of Ruhengeri. Head south on Avenue du Commerce towards Avenue de la Réunification. Continue straight until you reach the junction with Avenue de l'Indépendance. Turn left onto Avenue de l'Indépendance and walk for about 1 kilometer until you reach the bus station (Gare Routière de Ruhengeri).

At the bus station, look for a shared taxi (known locally as 'matatus') heading towards Kisoro, Uganda. Ask the driver to drop you at the turn-off for Muhavura Volcano. The fare should be around 1,000 Rwandan Francs.

Once dropped off at the turn-off, you will see a sign indicating the trailhead for Muhavura Volcano. Follow the path marked with signs towards the volcano, which is approximately 3 kilometers from the main road. The path is well-trodden, but be aware of uneven terrain.

As you hike towards Muhavura Volcano, be prepared for a steep ascent. The trail is scenic and offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. It is advisable to wear sturdy shoes and carry sufficient water. The hike will take approximately 3 to 5 hours depending on your pace.
