Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the center of Ruhengeri, near the main market. Head north on Avenue de la paix towards the main road (Avenue du 1er Novembre). Continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the junction with the road leading to Musanze. At this junction, turn right onto the road that leads towards Musanze. Follow this road for another 1 kilometer until you see a sign for Muhavura Volcano on your left. The volcano trailhead is approximately a 20-minute walk from this point.

  • Bicycle

    If you have rented a bicycle, start at the Ruhengeri town square. Cycle north on Avenue de la paix, then take the left fork to Avenue du 1er Novembre. Continue cycling straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the main junction. Turn right onto the Musanze road and keep cycling for about 1 kilometer. Look for the Muhavura Volcano sign on your left. The trailhead is a short distance from the main road, and you can park your bicycle at the entrance.

  • Local Moto-taxi

    From the center of Ruhengeri, find a local moto-taxi (motorcycle taxi). Tell the driver you want to go to Muhavura Volcano. The driver will take you towards Musanze on Avenue du 1er Novembre. After about 10 minutes, they will drop you off at the entrance to the Muhavura Volcano trailhead. Make sure to agree on the fare before starting your ride.
