Car
If you are traveling by car, make your way to the main entrance of Volcanoes National Park, located about 2-3 kilometers from Musanze town. Upon entering the park, follow the signs towards the visitor center. Once you reach the center, you can park your vehicle. From the visitor center, you will need to hire a local guide, as it is mandatory for trekking in the park. The guide will then lead you to the starting point of the trail to Mount Bisoke.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Kigali to Musanze, which is approximately a 2-3 hour journey. Once in Musanze, you will need to take a local taxi to the entrance of Volcanoes National Park, which should cost around 10,000 Rwandan Francs. At the park entrance, register at the visitor center and hire a local guide to assist you on your trek. The guide will take you to the starting point for the hike to Mount Bisoke.
Hiking
After hiring your local guide at the visitor center, you will start the hike to Mount Bisoke. The trek usually begins at the Bisoke trailhead, which is a short drive from the visitor center. The hike is moderately difficult and can take about 6-8 hours round trip. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry enough water and snacks for the journey.
