Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Victoria, the capital of Mahé. Drive along the main road (La Misère Road or the coastal road) heading towards the south. Follow the signs towards Bel Ombre and continue until you reach the junction for the Anse Major road. Take a left turn onto Anse Major road which leads into a more rural area. Make sure to keep an eye out for signs that direct you towards the Viewpoint (Île au Cerf). The last part of the road may require you to park your car at a designated area and take a short hike or walk to the viewpoint. Parking may be limited, so arrive early to secure a spot. Be aware of any parking fees that may apply in the area.
Public Transportation
Using public transport, you can take a bus from Victoria to Bel Ombre. Board any bus that is marked for the southern route; buses are frequent and provide a scenic view of the island. Once you reach Bel Ombre, you may need to ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to the Anse Major road. From there, you would have to walk approximately 1-2 kilometers along Anse Major road to reach the Viewpoint. Ensure to wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain can be uneven. Note that bus fares are quite affordable, typically costing around 5-10 SCR (Seychellois Rupee).
Hiking
For the more adventurous travelers, consider hiking to the Viewpoint. From the Anse Major road, follow the marked hiking trails leading towards the viewpoint. The hike can take about 30-45 minutes, depending on your pace. Bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are no facilities on the trail. This option offers a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Mahé Island up close. Ensure you follow the trail markers to avoid getting lost.
