If you are travelling by car, head towards Koidu City, the capital of Kono District. From Koidu, take the road towards the town of Yengema. After approximately 20 km, look for signs directing you to Tiwai Island Wildlife Sanctuary. There will be a turn-off to the right that leads to the riverbank where you can park your car. Be mindful of local road conditions, as they can vary. Once you reach the river, you will need to pay a small fee (approximately $5) for parking.

For those using public transportation, take a shared taxi or ‘poda poda’ (local minibus) from Koidu City heading towards Yengema. Inform the driver that you wish to go to Tiwai Island Wildlife Sanctuary. You will be dropped off at the turn-off to the sanctuary, about 20 km outside of Koidu City. From there, you will need to walk approximately 2 km to the riverbank where you can catch a canoe to Tiwai Island. The canoe ride will typically cost around $3 per person.
