Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start from the main town in Tonkolili District, which is Magburaka. Head east on the A1 highway toward the town of Makeni. After approximately 30 kilometers, take the exit toward Mafuri. Follow the signs to Mafuri, which is about 15 kilometers from the highway. Once in Mafuri, look for the sign pointing to Mamunta Mayosso Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located at the coordinates P6Q2+HRJ, Mafuri. Parking is available near the entrance.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Mamunta Mayosso Wildlife Sanctuary using public transport, you will need to take a shared taxi or 'poda poda' from Magburaka to Makeni. The fare is usually around 5,000 to 10,000 SLL, depending on the distance and vehicle. Once in Makeni, transfer to another shared taxi heading to Mafuri, which will cost about 5,000 SLL. Upon arrival in Mafuri, ask locals for directions to the Mamunta Mayosso Wildlife Sanctuary, which is approximately a 10-minute walk from the town center. Make sure to carry some cash for small purchases or any entrance fees at the sanctuary.

• Motorbike Taxi

  For a quicker option, you can hire a motorbike taxi (okada) from Magburaka to Mafuri. The fare is generally around 15,000 SLL. Ensure that you negotiate the price before starting your journey. Once you reach Mafuri, the motorbike taxi can take you directly to the entrance of Mamunta Mayosso Wildlife Sanctuary for an additional fee of about 5,000 SLL.
