Truffle Hunting and 3-course Truffle Brunch in Motovun

Mysterious product is found by eager dogs

We started with a walk through woodland with Miro and his two dogs - a Labrador & a cocker mix. Miro explained how the different types of truffle live in a symbiotic relationship with trees. Each has its season. The dogs quickly found spots of interest and started digging. Miro held them back as he scraped the soil back with his small spade. The black truffles, about the size of small potatoes, were just below the surface. The dogs were rewarded with some bread. Then back at the centre, we sampled various products containing black or white truffles. We saw how to prepare and use truffles in cooking. We had a delicious simple meal of an omelette containing truffles and parmigiana cheese. On the one hand it was a pricey couple of hours, but the satisfying experience of seeing how this mysterious product is found by eager dogs and their owner made it worthwhile.

Do not go drinking heavily the night before

This was a great trip, but is is a long day with lots of walking. My hangover did not help, but it was still worth it. I would highly recommend
